People with hearing loss can communicate by reading the lips using sign language or a screw implant. Soon there will be another, possibly much more convenient method that has been developed by scientists from the US State University of Colorado.
The technology developed by the scientists is primarily intended for those who are unable to help the aforementioned cochlear implant. Of course, what is developed at the university is not a way to fully recover your hearing, but rather a substitute for it.
The researchers, led by Professor John Williams, have created a special filling equipped with electrodes that installs on the palate of the patient. The device is Bluetooth-enabled with a wireless microphone. Captured sounds are then translated into a series of vibrations that can be read by pressing tongue to the palate. Hardware support naturally teaches you how to translate those vibrations into words, but designers ensure that it is much easier than you might think.
Nissan wants to equip its vehicles with a new feature that will facilitate their service. Some of the models needing an upcoming review will send notifications to the smartphone.
Cars should be serviced regularly, as this will ensure their failure. Therefore, it is important to keep an eye on the dates of oil and fuel replacement, as well as service reviews.
Modern vehicle models, equipped with advanced onboard computers, have for some time reported to the owner of the upcoming review date. However, these options are usually deep sewn on the menu of the on-board computer and sometimes you can overlook the information.
Nissan wants to avoid this, so it announces that new vehicle models will be installed with new systems that will send a smartphone notification of an upcoming review date. The company claims that the feature will be available in next year’s models available in Japan and India, and by 2020 it will also appear on other markets.
Interestingly, the manufacturer does not want to limit this function to new models only. Nissan plans to develop a special device that will also allow owners of older cars. The company plans to equip at least 30 percent of all its vehicles.
Computer owners know that modern PCs emit a lot of heat. Even more heat is generated by professional network servers that are equipped with a large number of processors and drives and need to work around the clock. German company Cloud & Heat has decided to use this to offer a new way of heating apartments.
Cloud & Heat is a cloud service provider, and therefore has a large number of servers running its business. However, their cooling is very expensive, so it was considered that the heat generated by them to heat the apartments would be more effective.
The company proposes to everyone willing to put such a server in their home, where he will do a typical heater. The customer only has to pay for a fire resistant rack and this is comparable to the price of a standard heating system. Cloud & Heat pays for the cost of internet connection and electricity, and the user enjoys free heating and hot water instead.
Interestingly, when you do not need so much heat, it will be stored in a special tank so that you can use it later. Besides this spring and summer the server will be air cooled from the outside, so on hot days we will not heat the apartment.
And what about data security? Cloud & Heat thought this too, so all the data is encrypted, and the server cabinet can only open the company employee.
